Early Career & Radio

Don’s professional broadcasting career started in 1971 as a DJ on a little-known FM station in the Houston area, KLYX.

In 1975 he moved to KPRC-AM, a news-talk station, anchoring noon and afternoon-drive newscasts as well as filling-in on several of the talk shows.

It wasn’t long before he added production and operations manager to his responsibilities there.

Voicing commercials while a news anchor is usually taboo in broadcasting, but upper management made an exception in Don’s case because of his versatility as a “do-everything” kind of guy.

Through the years at KPRC radio, Don made numerous friends at the many production facilities around Houston while recording voiceovers. Writer’s, Producer’s and Directors knew when they hired him to do their narrations or commercials, they could be confident the job would be done both efficiently and within their set time constraints.

The 90's & Television

In 1993 KPRC radio was sold, and Don felt it was the perfect time to pursue a freelance career; something he had wanted to do for quite some time.

As the voice of KPRC-TV, Randall’s grocery stores, The Mattress Firm, The Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo and others, the timing couldn’t have been better.

Don signed an agreement with Pastorini-Bosby Talent Agency to represent him professionally, and his freelance business continued to grow.

Also in 1993 Don began reporting traffic on the NBC affiliate’s morning news show; accepting the co-anchor position in 1999.
